The Hannum Hydraciser TM
Its Uses and Advantages
The Hydraciser offers a new concept in training the equine athlete both for competition and following injury or surgery.
General
Muscles respond to loading (resistance) by increasing their functional ability. The resistance offered by heated water in the Hydraciser provides an equal resistance to limb movement.
Cardiovascular
The cardiovascular system can be stressed by increasing the belt speed. This will ensure that previous levels of cardiovascular fitness are maintained in the injured animal. This feature can also be employed to improve cardiovascular competence during a general fitness program.
Muscle Loss in Loins and Back
Many horses suffer micro-trauma, particularly at the lumbosacral junction. Walking on a moving belt against resistance necessitates a muscle coordination which is slightly different from that employed over ground. In the Hydraciser the muscles of the loins assist hind limb movement and build accordingly.
Limb Trauma
Synovitis, tendonitis, capsulitis and tendon bow. Following orthopedic surgery.
The activity of the belt creates turbulence; this achieves a comprehensive underwater massage effect on the submerged tissues which enhances circulatory flow of blood. The return circulating blood flow is also dependent upon the comprehensive pumping action of the frog of the foot, which is only achieved during activity.
Following any trauma, be it to joint, ligament, or tendon, a partial weight bearing stance is adapted by the animal. This can lead to a loss of bone density. Daily controlled activity in the safety of the tank will ensure the maintenance of normal bone.
